DL (DiscipleLife) Groups consist of three to four persons of the same gender. The group meets together for about an hour each week at a location and time that is convenient. These meeting places can be homes, coffee shops, offices or restaurants. Though each DLG can look different, all have the same DNA: Discipleship, Nurture & Accountability.
Our desire is for the Bible to have a priority in our lives. Therefore each week the group members will decide what they are going to read together during the week. Some groups read large
portions of Scripture together, while others read smaller portions.
Using the SOAP journaling method each group member shares
what God is teaching them each week.
We are called to nurture one another. We learn each other’s
stories, and in doing so, we begin to call out the good things that
God is doing in each of us. We pray for each other and, as
Hebrews 10:24 teaches us, we “consider how to stir up one
another love and good works.”
We recognize our brokenness due to sin, but we also recognize
the fact that through the Gospel we are called to fight our sin.
We deceive ourselves, however, if we believe that we can go it
alone. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “he who is alone with
his sins is utterly alone.”
We all need a safe, grace and truth-filled place where we can
confess our sins to one another (James 5:16).
In order for this DNA to be present during our time together, we
ask one another questions. It is helpful to ask the following five
questions to each other every week we get together:
The God Question –How is your walk with God going? Have you been finding ways to connect
with Him daily this week?
The Relationship Question –How are you doing when it comes to loving those closest to you? Did you
spend quality/quantity time with your spouse, kids, friends, family, etc?
The Sanctification Question –How are you doing when it comes to knowing and fighting your sin? What
sins are tripping you up? How did you do fighting a specific sin this week?
The Mission Question – How did you do tangibly living out the Gospel this week? Did you find ways
to bless or serve a neighbor or co-worker? Did you practice hospitality?
Were you intentional in finding opportunities to proclaim the Gospel?
The Devotion Question –What is one thing that you felt God saying to you through your Scripture
reading and journaling this week? Share with the group the Scripture memory verse for the week.
